Abstract
The study aims to identify the extent to which Libyan commercial banks apply the dimensions of sustainable development and to support commercial banks to reach the best practices to promote sustainable development and take into account social, environmental and economic issues. The results of the study revealed that Libyan commercial banks adopted and applied environmental, social and economic practices as dimensions of sustainable development, as it was shown that commercial banks implement a policy of appointing competencies, training them, obtaining rewards and providing them with personal loans. Within the social dimension, banks are also keen to disclose their risks, predict profits, and cover small and large projects. Banks are also committed to laws that highlight the need to protect the environment, and support projects related to environmental protection by facilitating loans and reducing interest on them, and banks are keen to support initiatives aimed at Reducing the environmental impacts resulting from the activities of industrial companies, within the environmental dimension of commercial banks for sustainable development . The researchers recommend that government agencies and the Central Bank of Libya issue laws, instructions, and publications that lead to preserving environmental rights and the rights of stakeholders, and the need to support banking sector employees from social and economic aspects to keep pace with developments in the financial sector and banks
