The Role of the Qur’an Teacher in the Educational Process

Abstract
The message of the Quran teacher is an eternal message that is to memorize the Book of God Almighty, and the honor of this profession is embodied in the words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” This matter should not be underestimated, as every Muslim wants his son to be religious, that is, committed to the Islamic religion – even if he himself is not – because every father seeks perfection for his children. It is inconceivable that a young man should graduate having memorized the Book of God perfectly without having knowledge of the matters of his religion. Often, the Quran teacher plays this role, starting with teaching him the rules of prayer and so on, and even including contemplating the Quran, interpreting it, knowing its verses, and explaining its meanings. If this matter is well managed, it will produce men who understand what they memorize, and it will be easy for them to act upon what they understand, and even to convey it well if the field of conveying is opened to them or they enter it. Therefore, the Quran teacher is characterized by faith, piety, good morals, knowledge of the sciences of the true religion, good morals, righteousness, piety, and keenness to raise his students in a good manner. The general public does not care if the Quran teacher is a storehouse of knowledge containing the finest sciences but is locked away from what is in it. Knowledge is meant to be used for benefit, not to be stored, buried, or hoarded. Therefore, negativity, introversion, and isolation from people are reprehensible morals. Rather, he must be characterized by active positivity, and in every situation, he must be a voice of truth, a caller to righteousness, and a scale of justice. People are more obedient to him and more likely to follow him than others. The Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, emphasizes this positivity to be a constant driving force, pushing towards guidance and warding off evil, stressing the intention of good in learning and teaching, and warning against the negativity that brings down societies, and in that he says: “The example of the one who teaches people good and forgets himself is like a wick that gives light to people and burns itself.”
