Textual Cohesion in Al-Abiyurdi's Poetry
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research examines textual cohesion in the poetry of Al-Ubayradi as one of the modern critical concepts concerned with the internal structure of the poetic text. The study is based on the assumption that Al-Ubayradi’s poetry is not characterized by fragmentation or mere thematic multiplicity, but rather built upon a coherent artistic structure in which linguistic, imagistic, and semantic elements interact to form a unified emotional and intellectual whole. The study adopts a textual analytical approach to examine selected poetic texts, aiming to uncover the mechanisms of cohesion, such as semantic progression, effective transition between ideas, imagery linkage, and the rhythmic support of meaning. The analysis reveals that the poet demonstrates a clear ability to organize his poetic experience within a coherent artistic framework, making the poem a living entity that develops in internal harmony. The research concludes that Al-Ubayradi’s poetry is marked by a strong emotional unity, particularly in elegiac and contemplative themes, and that thematic diversity within a single poem does not lead to fragmentation, but rather contributes to a unified semantic framework that enhances textual cohesion. The findings also highlight the poet’s effective use of various artistic devices that reinforce structural integrity and unity.
