Lexical Casting in Surah (Yusuf)

Abstract

The holy qur,an is considered the highest linguistic text Arabic ,manifesting aspects of rhetorical inimitability on multiple levels .One its of most prominent features is textual cohesion, which contributes to building a unified structure of meaning and verses. Despite the diversity of its surahs(chapters), their lengths, and their meccan or medinan contexts, the cor,an remains a single entity due to intensity of structural and thematic coherence. It is well-know that cohesion in general and lexical cohesion in particular, is considered a linguistic phenomenon that combines tradition and modernity . It is not a product of the modern era as some claim, rather, it is an ancient phenomenon rooted in the language, addressed by early Arab linguists such as sibawayh, ibn jinni, ibn faris and other. In this research, the phenomenon of lexical cohesion Surah Yusuf is addressed as one of the most important means of text consistency in Quranic discourse. The study is limited to specific verses that exemplify types of lexical cohesion and its mechanisms in Surah Yusuf. The researcher adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, which relies on description, induction, and analysis by monitoring types of cohesion and its tools in the surah.
