Level of Internet Addiction and Motivation for Learning among Students of Derna University, Gubba Branch

Abstract

The study aimed to identify addiction to the Internet and its relationship to motivation to learn among students of the University of Derna - Qubba Branch (gender - specialization - academic year). . With an average age of (20.9) and the nature of the objectives of the study, the descriptive approach was used in its two parts (relational and comparative). The research group used in collecting data: (demographic variables questionnaire prepared by the researchers - a measure of the level of addiction to the Internet prepared by Bushra Ismail Ahmed (2007) - a measure of motivation to learn prepared by Al-Qatami (1989) in order to identify addiction to the Internet and its relationship to motivation to learn. The psychometric properties (honesty-reliability) of the scales used in the study were extracted. To analyze the objectives of the study, the research group used the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The study reached the following results: 1- There are statistically significant differences in the level of Internet addiction in favor of the study sample, which indicates that the sample members are addicted to the Internet and communication networks. 2- There are statistically significant differences in the level of motivation to learn in favor of the study sample, which indicates that the study sample has a high degree of motivation. 3- There is a weak direct relationship between addiction to the Internet and motivation to learn among the study sample, which indicates that the greater the addiction to the Internet, the greater the motivation to learn. 4- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of Internet addiction among the students of the University of Derna, Al-Qobba branch, according to the gender variable (male-female). 5- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of Internet addiction among university students according to the variable of the academic year (first-second-third-fourth). 6- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of Internet addiction among the students of the University of Derna, Al-Qubba branch, according to the specialization variable (humanities - applied sciences). 7- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of motivation to learn among the students of the University of Derna, Al-Quba branch, according to the gender variable (male-female). 8- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of motivation to learn among university students according to the variable of the academic year (first-second-third-fourth). 9- There are statistically significant differences in the level of motivation to learn among students of the University of Derna, Al-Quba branch, according to the variable of specialization (humanities - applied sciences) in favor of
