The Fundamentals of Education and Behavior Through Surahs Al-Isra and An-Nur
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to uncover the foundations of education and moral conduct in the Qur’anic chapters Al-Isrā’ and Al-Nūr by analyzing their educational methodology in shaping the individual and reforming society according to the principles of faith, piety, and ethical discipline. Al-Isrā’ addresses the doctrinal and spiritual dimension that forms the basis of righteous behavior through monotheism and God-consciousness, while Al-Nūr focuses on the legislative and social regulations that safeguard morality and protect family values from deviation, highlighting the complementarity between the doctrinal and practical aspects of Islamic upbringing. The study also shows that the Qur’an establishes an intrinsic link between belief and behavior, making faith the driving force of conscience and the source of personal and social responsibility. The educational framework in Al-Isrā’ presents a model for self-purification and internal moral vigilance through higher values such as honoring parents, justice, and benevolence. In contrast, Al-Nūr emphasizes adherence to ethical guidelines and public manners—such as lowering the gaze, protecting chastity, and seeking permission—as an integrated system regulating interactions within the Muslim community. The research concludes that both chapters present a comprehensive educational methodology that harmonizes inner refinement with external conduct. Al-Isrā’ reforms the individual internally through creed and admonition, while Al-Nūr regulates outward behavior in the social sphere through legislation and moral cultivation. From this harmony emerges the Qur’anic vision of building a value-based society founded on modesty, justice, and compassion—one that balances freedom with responsibility and makes faith-based education a pathway to establishing an ethical civilization grounded in human nature and piety.
