Abstract

The research aims to clarify the importance of contemporary theoretical approaches in social work within the environmental field, which is considered a newly emerging area of practice for social workers. This field seeks to promote and develop environmental awareness in order to protect the environment and contribute to addressing environmental problems resulting from human activities and negative interactions with the surrounding environment. The study highlights the most significant theoretical approaches that provide a social interpretation of the human– environment relationship and explain the factors that have led to environmental issues. Furthermore, the research discusses the main approach adopted by professional social work practice, which provides a theoretical framework for social workers and researchers to interpret and analyze systems of interaction with the environment. This framework also paves the way for professional interventions based on theories that include practical strategies representing the remedial aspect of social work.
