Social Work and Its Role in Addressing the Challenges of Digital Transformation

Abstract

The study aimed to explore social work and its role in addressing the challenges of digital transformation by examining the nature of the social challenges imposed by digital transformation on individuals and society, identifying the role of social work in confronting these challenges and mitigating their social effects, revealing the extent of social work institutions’ contribution to raising awareness among individuals about the safe and positive use of digital technologies, and finally, identifying the obstacles faced by social workers in employing digital technologies in professional social work practice. The descriptive method was adopted for its suitability to the study’s objectives. The study reached the following findings: -The social challenges of digital transformation include the widening digital divide and increasing social isolation due to excessive reliance on modern technologies. It also contributes to problems such as weakened direct relationships, the spread of misinformation, and its impact on social values and interactions. -The role of social work in confronting the challenges of digital transformation lies in raising awareness among individuals about the safe and responsible use of digital technologies, promoting digital literacy within society, and providing guidance and awareness programs that mitigate the negative social effects of modern technologies while enhancing positive social interaction. -Social work institutions contribute to raising individuals’ awareness of safe and positive digital technology use through educational programs and guidance activities, aiming to promote digital culture and reduce the social consequences of improper technology use. -The obstacles faced by social workers in employing digital technologies in professional practice include weak digital infrastructure, lack of technical skills among practitioners, resistance to change, insufficient institutional support, privacy and digital security risks, and difficulties in reaching certain target groups online.
