Abstract
This study examines sound symbolism in the works of Ibn Jinni (d. 392 AH) and modern linguists. Since the beginning of history، the issue of the relationship between words and the things they refer to or symbolize has emerged. Linguistic scholars have taken different positions on this type of inquiry: some support the existence of a natural relationship between the signifier and the signified، while others reject this view and consider the relationship between the sound form and its meaning to be arbitrary. This research seeks to compare and analyze these perspectives، and to understand the nature of the relationship between the phonetic quality of a word and the meaning conveyed by that sound.
