Abstract

Television is considered a medium of communication and information with an active role in various cultural, social, and psychological contexts. It serves as a helpful tool for those involved in social upbringing to address some of the challenges families face, particularly amidst contemporary changes. Television, being one of the most comprehensive media outlets in terms of functions, benefits from its proximity to audience engagement. This enhances its effectiveness and impact on viewers, sometimes leading to confusion, especially among young viewers who may struggle to distinguish between reality and fiction. Television is distinct in its ability to present matters clearly, thus serving as a window through which viewers observe the world. Due to its resemblance to reality, it is considered a significant means of persuasion and reaching individuals. Consequently, television competes with families in their responsibilities towards children by contributing to their upbringing. Studies indicate that children spend extended periods watching television before attending school. Some argue that television has more negative than positive effects on children's behaviour, cognitive, social, and psychological abilities, as it deepens negative habits and leads children towards isolation and loneliness. Therefore, it is imperative to develop strategies and plans to create beneficial alternative programs to foreign ones aired on television. Emphasis should be placed on religious and educational programs that assist families in the social upbringing process.
