Trends of students at the Faculty of Physical Education, Al-Mergib University are practicing basketball

Abstract
This research aims to identify the attitudes of students at the Faculty of Physical Education, Al- Al-Mergib University, towards playing basketball. The researcher used the descriptive method. The research sample, randomly selected, consisted of (84) students from all academic years, representing 60% of the research population. A questionnaire was used to measure students' attitudes towards playing basketball. In its final form, the questionnaire consisted of (18) statements. The p-value was (0.954), and the validity coefficient was (0.977). The results showed that the arithmetic means ranged between (2.07) and (2.73), which is within the high level, indicating positive attitudes among students towards playing basketball. The statement that "playing basketball develops a spirit of cooperation among students" ranked first with an arithmetic mean of (2.73), reflecting students' awareness of the positive social role of the game. The statement about "desire to attend lectures dedicated to basketball" ranked last with an arithmetic mean of (2.07), which is within the average level, possibly indicating the presence of some factors affecting motivation to attend. Some other statements also showed an average level, such as the related statements Despite reading sports newspapers and exercising self-control, the students' performance did not fall below a low level. Overall, the total arithmetic mean of the scale was (39.01), with a weighted mean of (2.44), which falls within the high level, indicating that the students' attitudes towards playing basketball were positive.
