The Role of Visual Arts in Expressing Cultural Identity

Abstract
The study aimed to identify the role of visual arts in expressing cultural identity through the following axes: examining the role of visual arts in expressing cultural identity among individuals and societies; identifying the challenges facing visual arts in preserving cultural identity in the context of globalization; exploring how to achieve a balance between authenticity and modernity in artistic work without losing cultural specificity; and identifying the role of educational and cultural institutions in supporting visual arts and strengthening their connection to cultural identity. The study adopted the descriptive method due to its suitability for the research objectives. The study reached the following results: The study showed that visual artworks represent a visual language that conveys societal values, beliefs, and traditions. The results indicated that openness to global trends and artistic styles may lead to the dilution of local identity if authenticity and modernity are not carefully integrated. The study revealed that combining traditional symbols with modern techniques enhances artistic creativity while preserving cultural specificity. The findings showed that educational and cultural institutions provide both cognitive and practical support for artists.
