Abstract
The relationship between knowledge and ethics is an inseparable one; whoever separates them has essentially called upon ignorance. This connection is clearly reflected in the biographies and writings of our distinguished scholars, where they combined rigorous critique of scholarly issues with ethical criticism whenever there was a deviation from moderation in managing disagreements. This research presents a model of such exemplary scholars—Imam alMazari. In his book "Idāḥ al-Maḥṣūl min Burhān al-Uṣūl", he carefully examined the intricate issues of legal theory posed by Imam al-Juwayni in his work "Burhān al-Uṣūl". Through this examination, al-Mazari also highlighted the ethical principles that a scholar must observe and keep in mind when critiquing those who hold differing opinions. By means of analytical observation, I have identified three main ethical principles emphasized by al-Mazari: Avoiding arrogance, Honoring scholars, Seeking excuses for others' mistakes
