Abstract

This experimental-analytical study investigates the impact of a field-based practicum program on developing teaching skills among students of the Faculty of Education at Al-Zawiya University. Employing a pretest–posttest control-group design, 120 students were randomly assigned to either the practicum group (n=60) or the control group (n=60). Data were collected using a Teaching Skills Questionnaire, classroom observations, and interviews with practicum supervisors, both before and after the intervention. ANOVA and regression analyses examined differences and relationships between students’ practicum engagement and their teaching skill development. Results revealed a statistically significant increase in the mean teaching skill scores of the practicum group compared to the control group post-intervention (p < .01). Regression analysis indicated that practicum participation intensity accounted for over 45% of the variance in skill improvement. The findings suggest that authentic field experiences enhance student teachers’ abilities in lesson planning, classroom management, and interactive instructional strategies.
