Abstract

This research examines the Algerian thinker Malek Ben nabi's vision of the concept of civilization and the conditions for renaissance in Islamic societies. It analyzes his intellectual project, which links cultural backwardness with what he calls "susceptibility to colonialism." Bennabi proceeds from a profound understanding of civilization as an integrated system that brings together people, land, and time, within a cultural and ethical framework that guides this interaction. The research focuses on the elements Bennabi considered essential for achieving renaissance, such as human development, awareness development, reform of religious thought, and the mobilization of individual and collective will. It also highlights his critique of consumerism and blind imitation, calling for transcending fascination with the West by building a civilizational project rooted in the Islamic self. This research aims to explore the realism and relevance of Malek Bennabi's ideas in light of the current challenges facing Arab and Islamic societies, and to attempt to draw inspiration from his intellectual lessons to build a contemporary renaissance balanced between matter and spirit, reason and faith.
